CHICAGO, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Robert Hughes ran for 69 yards and scored twice Thursday, pacing the Chicago Bears to a 24-14 pre-season decision over Cleveland.
Hughes gave the Bears a 17-0 lead with a 2-yard run in the second period and then closed out the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Caleb Hanie threw a 19-yard pass to Johnny Knox for Chicago's other touchdown in the first period.
Hanie completed 7-of-10 for 83 yards and Knox caught two passes for 33.
Cleveland starting quarterback Colt McCoy did not play. Backup Jarrett Brown threw for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Chicago closed out the exhibition season at 2-2 and Cleveland went 1-3. The Bears begin the regular campaign at home against Atlanta, Cleveland will host Cincinnati.
