MLB: Oakland 7, Cleveland 0

CLEVELAND, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Cliff Pennington's went 4-for-5 with three RBI, lifting Oakland to a 7-0 rout of Cleveland Thursday, avoiding a four-game sweep.

Gio Gonzalez (12-11) threw seven scoreless innings for the A's, giving up four hits, striking out seven and walking four for the win. He improved to 5-0 in six career starts against Cleveland. He has allowed just three earned runs in 37 1/3 innings.

Coco Crisp also went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the A's.

Getting the loss, the Indians' Fausto Carmona (6-13) allowed four runs, only three earned, on eight hits over six-plus innings. He struck out six and walked two.
