CHICAGO, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Scott Diamond earned his first major league victory Tuesday, giving up three runs in Minnesota Twins' 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Jason Kubel and Luke Hughes backed Diamond with two-run home runs in the first inning.
Diamond (1-2) gave up only three hits and three walks. He carded five strikeouts.
Joe Nathan escaped with his 12th save of the season even though he allowed two runs in the ninth and left the score-tying run on base.
The Twins ended the Chisox's season-best, five-game win streak.
The loser was Jake Peavy (6-7) who was roughed up for the six first-inning runs. He went five innings, giving up eight hits without a walk and four strikeouts.
The White Sox, who got a two-run homer from Brent Lillibridge, will head into a series at Detroit Friday trailing the Tigers by six games in the American League Central race.
