Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Clayton Kershaw racked up his 17th win with a complete-game six-hitter Monday, carrying the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-1 decision over San Diego.
Kershaw (17-5) yielded only one run while walking two. The lefty struck out five, raising his National League leading strikeout total to 212, while tossing 84 of his 119 pitches for strikes.
James Loney smacked a two-run homer and Andre Ethier went 3-for-4 with an RBI single for the Dodgers, who took the opener of a three-game series.
San Diego's Mat Latos (6-13) yielded four runs on five hits before exiting after six innings.
