Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PHOENIX, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Daniel Hudson hurled seven shutout innings Monday and the Arizona Diamondbacks registered their seventh straight win with a 5-1 victory over Colorado.
Hudson (14-9) scattered three hits, walked three and fanned eight for the first-place Diamondbacks, who extended their National League West lead over second-place San Francisco to five games. The Giants fell to the Chicago Cubs Monday 7-0.
J.J. Putz collected his 34th save after the Rockies loaded the bases and scored a run on a hit-by-pitch in the ninth.
Arizona broke the game open with four runs in the sixth on RBI from Hudson, Miguel Montero, Paul Goldschmidt and James McDonald.
Rockies rookie Alex White (0-1) was touched for five runs on seven hits over six frames.
