DETROIT, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Johnny Giavotella collected three RBI and Salvador Perez homered Monday in the Kansas City Royals' 9-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Perez went 3-for-4 for the Royals, who opened a four-game set with their third win in five games.

Luke Hochevar (9-10) earned the victory despite allowing five runs on eight hits over seven-plus frames. He yielded two walks and fanned seven while snapping a four-start winless streak.

Detroit's Max Scherzer (13-8) was roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits, lasting just three-plus innings.

The American League Central-leading Tigers got three hits from Miguel Cabrera in their second straight loss.
