MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Alan Ball set the tone with a touchdown on a blocked field goal try in the second quarter Saturday and the Dallas Cowboys bested Minnesota 23-17.

Ball's 20-yard scoring scamper off a blocked Ryan Longwell attempt put Dallas ahead to stay less than a minute into the second period.

Tony Romo went 15-of-20 through the air for 141 yards and Felix Jones added a 5-yard scoring run for Dallas.

Minnesota's Donovan McNabb completed 12-of-18 for 164 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Vikings, who were playing in their first game at the Metrodome since the roof collapsed during a December snowstorm.
