MLB: Texas 9, Los Angeles Angels 5

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Eric Chavez delivered a two-run single Sunday, capping a big seventh inning that keyed the Texas Rangers' a 9-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

With the Angels ahead 5-4 in the seventh, the Rangers erupted for four runs, grabbing control of the contest between the American League West rivals.

David Murphy led off with a double and after Ian Kinsler tied the score with a run-scoring single off starter Jered Weaver (15-7), and the LA ace was chased when Elvis Andrus reached on a bunt single.

Scott Downs relieved and yielded an RBI single to Josh Hamilton for a Texas lead and, after Bobby Cassevah came in to pitch, Chavez delivered his key two-run single to put the game away.

Darren Oliver (5-5) earned the victory with a scoreless seventh inning as the division-leading Rangers opened up a three-game lead over the Angels.

Weaver ended up yielding seven runs on eight hits over six frames for Los Angeles.

Howie Kendrick went 3-for-3 with a solo homer in the Angels' loss.
