SPA, Belgium, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel won the pole position at the Belgian Grand Prix Saturday by navigating the 19-turn track in 1 minute, 48.298 seconds.

It was the ninth pole in 12 races for the defending F1 champion and the 13th in a row for his Red Bull Team.

Vettel edged McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who briefly led the qualifying round held on a day of off-and-on rain showers.

"The circuit was drying very quickly," said Vettel. "I didn't feel comfortable in the beginning, but we made a big step forward in Q2."

Vettel's teammate, Mark Webber, will start from the third position alongside Ferrari's Felipe Massa in the 44-lap race.
