Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CLEVELAND, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Asdrubal Cabrera's clutch three-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday rallied the Cleveland Indians to an 8-7 victory over Kansas City.
The Indians seemed likely to come out on the short end after the Royals forged a 7-4 lead in the top of the eighth on Alex Gordon's three-run blast.
But Cleveland began its comeback in the next half-inning when Cabrera delivered an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 7-5.
Then in the Indians' eighth, Lonnie Chisenhall singled, Kosuke Fukudome walked and Cabrera belted a long homer to right to make a loser of Louis Coleman (1-4).
Joe Smith (3-3) earned the win after getting the final out in the top of the eighth and Chris Perez recorded his 29th save of the season.
Newly acquired Jim Thome mashed a solo homer on his 41st birthday and Jack Hannahan went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Indians.
The victory enabled Cleveland to stay 6 1/2 games behind American League Central-leading Detroit.
