ATLANTA, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Atlanta authorities say they have charged former NBA player Javaris Crittenton with murder in the shooting death of a young woman in April.

Crittenton was believed to be in the Los Angeles area this weekend, and Atlanta police were working with the FBI to take him into custody.

Crittenton was a standout at Georgia Tech and first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Crittenton bounced around the NBA and was most recently playing for the NBA Development League.

His career took a wrong turn in 2009 when he and teammate Gilbert Arenas pulled guns during a dispute in the Washington Wizards locker room and were suspended for the season.

Police say Crittenton fired shots from a vehicle at a group of people at a shopping mall who he apparently believed had stolen some jewelry from him earlier. One of the rounds struck and killed passerby Jullian Jones.
