Stanford ties Miyazato for LPGA lead

MIRABEL, Quebec, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Angela Stanford fired a 6-under 66 Friday and shared the lead with top-ranked Ai Miyazato at the halfway point of the Canadian Women's Open.

Stanford, who has qualified for the U.S. Solheim Cup team that will take on the European squad this year, is seeking her fifth LPGA Tour victory.

The co-leaders were at 11-under 133 for two trips around the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club course, two shots in front of Song-Hee Kim. Defending champion Michelle Wie led a large group tied for fourth at 136.

Wie was joined by Becky Morgan, Gerina Piller, Sophie Gustafson, Brittany Lincicome, Paula Creamer, first-round co-leader Pernilla Lindberg and Seon Hwa Lee, who had the day's low round of 65.

Sherri Steinhauer, 48, an eight-time tour winner who had previously announced she will retire after this event, missed the cut, so it was the final round of her career.

Steinhauer, who will be an assistant captain for the American Solheim Cup team, won her first tournament 19 years ago.
