BOSTON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Scott Sizemore and Josh Willingham both had two-run homers in a six-run fourth Friday, propelling the Oakland A's to a 15-5 win over Boston.
The Athletics pounded out 16 hits in snapping Boston's three-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the Red Sox stayed a game in front of the second-place New York Yankees in the American League East.
Eight of the Oakland runs were given up by Tim Wakefield (6-6), who tried and failed for the sixth straight start to get to 200 career wins.
Oakland won for the seventh time in 10 games and took charge with its big fourth inning. In addition to the homers by Sizemore and Willingham in that inning, Hideki Matsui produced a two-run double.
The Athletics tacked on a four-run eighth, during which David DeJesus had a two-run double.
Gio Gonzalez (11-11) lasted 5 2/3 innings to get the win, giving up four runs on seven hits.
Only four of the eight runs surrendered by Wakefield were earned. He has not won since July 24.
