Isner downs Roddick to reach finals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- John Isner surprised Andy Roddick Friday and reached the championship match of the Winston-Salem Open.

Isner will meet Julien Benneteau for the title Saturday in the final tuneup for next week's U.S. Open.

Isner defeated Roddick 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 in a match that included 18 aces, 10 from Roddick. It was Isner's second win over Roddick in five career meetings.

This will be Isner's eighth career final and he is seeking his third title. He won the Hall of Fame Championship in Newport, R.I., this summer.

Benneteau earned a shot at the crown by defeating Robin Haase 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (10-8).
