Qualifiers reach semis in Texas

GRAPEVINE, Texas, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Sabine Lisicki and Irina-Camelia Begu, the only seeded players left in the event, won their quarterfinal matches Thursday at the Texas Tennis Open.

Lisicki, seeded fifth, and Begu, the No. 8 seed, will face each other in the semifinals. Lisicki stormed past Kateryna Bondarenko 6-1, 6-2 and Begu was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Anastasija Sevastova.

Qualifiers earned the other semifinal spots in the inaugural playing of this tournament.

Angelique Kerber blasted Johanna Larsson 6-0, 6-1 and Aravane Rezai disposed of Elena Baltacha 6-2, 6-2.
