SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Tim Lincecum worked his way in and out of trouble while striking out in seven over eight innings Wednesday, boosting San Francisco past San Diego 2-1.
Lincecum (12-10) also drove in the eventual winning run, allowing the Giants to stay within two games of first-place Arizona in the National League West.
Carlos Beltran put San Francisco in front with a fourth-inning home run and Lincecum singled in a run one inning later.
The lone San Diego run came in the sixth when Cameron Maybin reached on an infield single and scored on a triple by Orlando Hudson.
Lincecum allowed four hits and walked five. He walked the bases loaded with two out in the first, was helped out by double play grounders in both the second and third, and put two on with two away in the fourth.
Santiago Casilla struck out two in a perfect ninth for his first save. He was given the save opportunity after closer Brian Wilson went on the disabled list last Sunday.
Tim Stauffer (8-10) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and two runs over six innings.
