ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Adrian Gonzalez hit two of four home runs that accounted for all of Boston's scoring Thursday and gave the Red Sox a 6-0 win over Texas.
Boston battered Texas in each of the last three games of the four-game series after being held scoreless in the opener.
The Red Sox stayed a game in front of the second-place New York Yankees in the American League East and Texas had lead over the second-place Los Angeles Angels in the AL West trimmed to two -- down from seven last week.
Gonzalez hit a solo homer in the first and a two-run blast in the third, running his total for the season to 23. David Ortiz had a solo shot in the second, his 25th homer of the year, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia added a two-run home run in the fourth.
All of the homers came off Alexi Ogando (12-6), who lasted four innings.
The Rangers managed only three hits, all of them given up by starter and winner Andrew Miller (6-1). Miller struck out six in 6 1/3 innings.
