MLB: Arizona 8, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Paul Goldschmidt had three RBI in his final two at-bats Thursday to help the Arizona Diamondbacks put on a late surge in their 8-1 victory over Washington.

The Diamondbacks were clinging to a 2-1 lead heading into the eighth but Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer in that inning and added an RBI single during a three-run ninth.

Arizona won the final three games of the four-game series.

Chris Young hit a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks in the sixth and contributed a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Arizona's Miguel Montero went 3-for-5 and scored twice while Justin Upton crossed the plate three times.

Wade Miley (1-1) got the victory in his second major league start. He held Washington without a run on five hits in six innings.

The loss went to John Lannan (8-10), who surrendered two runs on seven hits in six innings. It was his third straight setback.
