NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki cruised to a second-round win over Polona Hercog at the New Haven Open Tuesday.
Wozniacki, the No. 1 player in the WTA rankings, beat Hercog 6-3, 6-0 in the U.S. Open tuneup, which was delayed briefly due to an earthquake that rattled much of the East Coast.
Wozniacki won nine consecutive games to nail down the victory. She served up two aces and won 4-of-5 break points.
Wozniacki's next opponent will be Christina McHale, whom she lost to in an opening-round upset last week in Cincinnati. McHale advanced Tuesday with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Carla Suarez Navarro.
Also advancing Tuesday were third-seeded Francesca Schiavone and Petra Cetkovska, who prevailed in a marathon over fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
