
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Juan Rivera drove in three runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers banged out 13 hits Wednesday for a 9-4 victory over St. Louis and a series sweep.
Rivera's double drove in the second of six Dodger runs in the decisive third inning and he later added a two-run homer for Los Angeles, which completed a three-game sweep in St. Louis for the first time since 1993.
A.J. Ellis added a solo shot and an RBI single while Matt Kemp also drove in a pair for the Dodgers.
Hiroki Kuroda (10-14) won for the fourth time in five starts, holding the Cards to three runs on eight hits over seven innings, issuing one walk while fanning four.
Jamie Garcia (10-7) absorbed the defeat for the reeling Cardinals, who lost for the 10th time in 15 games. The left-hander's personal winless streak reached six starts after yielding seven runs on nine hits over five innings.
Gerald Laird clubbed a two-run homer and Skip Schumaker went 4-for-4 with an RBI for St. Louis.
