NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Current French Open champion Li Na reached the quarterfinals of the New Haven Open Wednesday and Christina McHale set up a meeting with Caroline Wozniacki.

Li, the first Asian to win a major tennis championship, defeated Maria Kirilenko 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). She will next face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Roberta Vinci.

McHale moved into the quarterfinals by rolling past Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2, 6-2. Wozniacki, who earlier in the day was made the No. 1 seed for next week's U.S. Open, will be waiting as she tries to bounce back from first-round losses in her two previous events.

Wimbledon semifinalist Marion Bartoli also advanced with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Klara Zakopalova and will now take on qualifier Petra Cetkovska, who surprised Agnieszka Radwanska on Tuesday.

The other second-round winner Thursday was Anabel Medina Garrigues, who won over Elena Vesnina 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Francesca Schiavone, who lost to Li in the French Open finals this year and who won that tournament a year ago, will face Medina Garrigues in the quarterfinals.
