STATESVILLE, N.C., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Race car driver Kyle Busch admitted Tuesday he drove a sports car at 128 mph in a 45 mph zone last spring.

After the 26-year-old NASCAR driver pleaded guilty to speeding and no contest to reckless driving, Iredell District Judge Thomas Church revoked his driver's license for 45 days and fined him $1,000, The Charlotte Observer reported.

The newspaper said Bush will still be able to ply his trade since a valid driver's license isn't necessary to compete in NASCAR events.

Busch apologized for his behind-the-wheel behavior, and his attorney said the race car river will sponsor 10 driving schools for 300 teenage drivers.
