Raiders exec defends team's fans

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Oakland Raiders Chief Executive Amy Trask defended the team's fans after violence at a pre-season game against the San Francisco 49ers in Candlestick Park.

Trask said the majority of Raider supporters were "terrific people and terrific fans."

Her comments were made following two shooting incidents in the San Francisco stadium parking lot that left two men in hospitals, one in critical condition, the Los Angles Times reported.

A third man, beaten unconscious in a stadium bathroom, was hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

The 49ers beat the Raiders 17-3 in the Saturday game.

Trask said Raider fans are unfairly characterized as violent.

"I'm aware of the perception and I don't believe the perception is the reality," she said. "Stereotypes are insidious. It's so simple to stereotype Raiders fans. It's an easy story."

San Francisco police said they are looking for a person of interest in one of the shootings but are investigating the two shootings and the beating as separate incidents.

The names of the victims had not been released.
