CLEVELAND, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Franklin Gutierrez drove in the go-ahead run with a ninth-inning sacrifice fly Monday and the Seattle Mariners used it to edge Cleveland 3-2.
Indians closer Chris Perez (2-6) began the ninth by hitting both Miguel Olivo and Brendan Ryan with pitches. Trayvon Robinson then tapped an infield single to load the bases.
One out later, Gutierrez lifted a fly ball to center and Olivo scored on a close play at the plate, sliding under the throw from outfielder Ezequiel Carrera.
The run made a winner of Chance Ruffin (1-0), who hurled one shutout inning. Brandon League managed to gain his 31st save despite yielding two hits in the ninth.
Ichiro Suzuki homered among his three hits as the Mariners snapped a five-game losing streak.
Lou Marson collected three hits and an RBI for Cleveland, which fell five games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central.
