
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Cliff Lee struck out seven batters over seven scoreless frames Monday, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 10-0 pounding of the New York Mets.
Lee (14-7) continued a five-start hot streak in which he has recorded five wins and allowed only six runs in 38 2/3 innings.
The left-hander scattered three hits and issued three walks while raising his strikeout total to a career-best 191, second-most in the National League.
John Mayberry drove in three runs, including a two-run homer, and Hunter Pence went 2-for-3 with a solo shot, two RBI and four runs scored for the National League East-leading Phillies.
Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz also drove in two runs each as Philadelphia took the opener of a three-game series against the Mets.
New York's Dillon Gee (11-5) was rocked for eight runs on seven hits, issuing six walks.
