MLB: Milwaukee 8, Pittsburgh 1 (1st game)

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Chris Narveson tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings before leaving with an injury Monday and Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh 8-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Narveson (9-6), who was coming off the disabled list with a cut to his thumb, allowed five hits and fanned three. He also drove in two runs with a single for the National League Central-leading Brewers.

But he left the game with an injury to the middle finger of his throwing hand.

Ryan Braun cracked a two-run homer and Jonathan Lucroy added a pair of RBI as red-hot Milwaukee won for the 23rd time in 26 games.

Pittsburgh's Jeff Karstens (9-7) was saddled with loss after yielding two runs on six hits over seven frames.

Ryan Ludwick homered for the Bucs.
