
NORTH PLAINS, Ore., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Suzann Pettersen stormed back from nine strokes behind then defeated Na Yeon Choi in a one-hole playoff Sunday to claim the Safeway Classic.
Pettersen fired a 7-under-par 64 in regulation and had to wait for more than 2 hours for the rest of the field to finish their rounds.
Choi, the second-round leader, stumbled to a 2-over 73, bogeying the final hole of regulation to force at playoff after she and Pettersen both finished at 6-under 207.
On the playoff hole, Choi put her second shot into the water to the right of the green and ended up missing a bogey putt, while Pettersen drained the par putt for her ninth LPGA Tour title.
Hee Young Park missed the playoff by one stroke after bogeying the 18th, settling for a 4-under 67.
Paula Creamer (68) grabbed sole possession of fourth, ending at minus-4.
Christina Kim retained her 10th and final position on the points list for spots on the Solheim Cup team.
