Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Diego Chara and Jorge Perlaza scored in the first half Saturday and the Portland Timbers went on to a 2-1 win over Vancouver.
Chara's tally came just 2 minutes into the game and set the tone. On the goal, he took possession at the top of the box and fired a laser past Whitecaps goalkeeper Joe Cannon.
Perlaza made it 2-0 in the 33rd when he flicked a shot into the net following a scramble in the box.
The Timbers (8-12-5) used the win to snap their two-game skid and retained their hold on seventh place in the Western Conference with 29 points.
Brazilian player Camilo found the net in the 88th minute for expansion Vancouver (3-13-9), which stayed bottom of the Western Conference.
