MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Ivan Nova and two relievers combined for a seven-hit shutout Sunday and the New York Yankees posted a 3-0 whitewash of Minnesota.
Nova (13-4) padded his lead for most wins among rookie pitchers with seven scoreless frames, limiting the Twins to five hits while walking one and fanning five.
David Robertson pitched the eighth and Mariano Rivera recorded his 33rd save with a perfect ninth as the Yankees took three of four games against Minnesota at Target Field.
Curtis Granderson hit an inside-the-park homer, his 34th round-tripper of the year, and Mark Teixeira followed with his 35th of the season with two outs in the seventh for New York.
Twins starter Nick Blackburn left the game with a strained right forearm after only 1 1/3 innings and Phil Dumatrait (1-2) absorbed the loss for Minnesota.
