MLB: LA Angels 9, Baltimore 8 (12 innings)

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Bobby Abreu capped a Los Angeles rally in the bottom of the 12th inning with a sacrifice fly that brought the Angels a 9-8 win over Baltimore Saturday.

The Orioles scored twice in the top of the frame to grab an 8-6 lead and appeared well on the win to a victory but the Angels came up with three runs in their final at-bat to pull out a crucial win.

Baltimore's Kevin Gregg (0-2) came in to start the 12th and allowed a single to Erick Aybar, then hit Mike Trout with a pitch. Aybar scored when third baseman Josh Bell threw wildly to first on a Hank Conger bunt.

Bell then made a nice diving stop on Peter Bourjos' grounder but his throw was ruled too late at first, although replays seemed to show Bourjos had been thrown out.

That loaded the bases with no outs and and Alberto Callaspo drew a walk to force in the tying run.

Abreu greeted reliever Troy Patton with a deep fly ball to center that scored pinch-runner Vernon Wells with the game-winner.

Fernando Rodney (3-5) earned the win for the Angels, who moved five games behind Texas in the American League West.
