KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Boston's Jon Lester turned in a strong start and Darnell McDonald went 3-for-5 with a homer for the Red Sox Sunday in their 6-1 win over Kansas City.
Lester (13-6) cruised through six innings, allowing only one hit, before running into a bit of trouble in the seventh when Kansas City scored its only run.
The left-hander finished with three hits allowed, four walks and three strikeouts while improving to 3-2 in six starts since coming off the disabled list last month.
Carl Crawford also homered for Boston, which took three of four games against the Royals and remained a half-game in back of the New York Yankees atop the American League East.
Kansas City's Danny Duffy (3-8) was tagged with the loss, yielding a pair of runs on five hits over six frames.
