BROOKLYN, Mich., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Kyle Busch clinched a spot in the 12-member championship Chase field Sunday with a victory in the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Busch grabbed his fourth Sprint Cup Series win of the season, taking the lead from Jimmie Johnson with 12 laps remaining and then holding him off during a green-white-checkered finish.

It was the 23rd career Sprint Cup win for Busch, who became the first driver to claim one of the 12 Chase slots.

Two-time Michigan defending champion Johnson, meanwhile, settled for second and Michigan native Brad Keselowski came in third.

Mark Martin and Ryan Newman rounded out the Top 5.

The Sprint Cup Chase begins Sept. 18 at Chicagoland Speedway.
