GREENSBORO, N.C., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Webb Simpson heated up on the back nine Saturday, firing four birdies and an eagle en route a two-stroke lead after three rounds of the Wyndham Championship.
Simpson's torrid stretch led to a round of 6-under-par 64 and put him at 5-under-par 195 after 54 holes, two shots better than second-round leader Tommy Gainey.
Gainey logged an up-and-down round in which he managed a 1-under 69 to slip into second place at minus-13 at Sedgefield Country Club.
Former Wyndham champ Carl Pettersson registered a 7-under 63, tying him with John Mallinger (65) in fourth place at minus-12.
One stroke further back was Daniel Summerhays (68), who once won at Wyndham as a Nationwide Tour amateur.
Rain delayed the round by 63 minutes.
