Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Rookie Jeremy Hellickson hurled eight shutout innings Saturday and the Tampa Bay Rays subdued the Seattle Mariners 8-0.
Hellickson (11-8) surrendered six hits, struck out five and issued only one walk in the victory, which came in the middle contest of a series at Tropicana Field.
Joel Peralta completed the shutout in the ninth for the Rays, who notched their fourth straight win.
Evan Longoria clubbed a homer while racking up four RBI, while Johnny Damon and Ben Zobrist each chipped in three hits for the victors.
Seattle's Charlie Furbush (3-5) was roughed up for five runs on eight hits before exiting after just three innings.
The Mariners dropped their fourth straight game.
