MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Danny Valencia triggered a big second inning with a homer and Jason Kubel added three hits Saturday in Minnesota's 9-4 win over the New York Yankees.
The Twins turned a 2-0 lead into a 7-0 bulge with five runs in the second off A.J. Burnett (9-10), with Kubel's two-run single capping the outburst.
Justin Morneau and Ben Revere each added two RBI for the Twins, who bounced back after dropping the first two contests in a four-game series with the Yankees at Target Field.
Francisco Liriano (9-9) earned the win, allowing just one unearned run in seven innings. The left-hander scattered three hits and three walks while striking out six.
Burnett lasted only 1 2/3 innings, getting torched for five hits and seven runs with three walks.
Curtis Granderson and Francisco Cervelli contributed RBI for New York, which lost for only the third time in 10 games and remained one-half game ahead of Boston atop the American League East.
