KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Eric Hosmer's two-run triple highlighted a big sixth-inning rally Saturday that carried the Kansas City Royals to a 9-4 victory over Boston.
Trailing 4-1 in the sixth, Kansas City erupted for eight runs, sending 12 batters to the plate and collecting seven of their 14 hits.
Alex Gordon went 3-for-5 with a two-run double during the uprising and Kansas City rebounded after losing the first two contests of their four-game set with the Red Sox.
The Royals' rally denied Boston knuckleballer Tim Wakefield of his 200th career victory. He remained without a win in his last five starts after being tagged with four runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Matt Albers (4-4) took the loss, surrendering five of KC's eight runs in the sixth.
