Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Ricky Romero allowed three hits while throwing the third shutout of his career Thursday in bringing the Toronto Blue Jays a 7-0 win over Oakland.
Romero (12-9), in his third major league season, has gone the distance seven times in 86 career starts. His personal winning streak reached five games, during which he has given up four earned runs.
Toronto took control with a three-run fourth inning that gave the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead.
Edwin Encarnacion singled in a run in the fourth and scored on a two-run blast by Colby Rasmus off Trevor Cahill (9-12). J.P. Arencibia drove in two runs with a single in the sixth.
Toronto won its third in a row and halted Oakland's brief winning streak at two.
