BROOKLYN, Mich., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Greg Biffle traveled at more than 190 mph at the Michigan International Speedway Friday to win the pole for Sunday's Pure Michigan 400.
Biffle was clocked at 190.345 mph around the 2-mile track, giving him the seventh pole of his Sprint Cup career. He had not won a pole, however, in 117 races -- last doing so in 2008.
He became the 15th different pole winner in the Sprint Cup series this year.
Matt Kenseth, Biffle's teammate at Roush Fenway Racing, qualified second. Ryan Newman was third, followed by Denny Hamlin and Mark Martin. Hamlin won at Michigan International in June.
Brad Keselowski, David Ragan, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Jamie McMurray rounded out the first 10 qualifiers.
Marcos Ambrose, who won his first Sprint Cup race Monday at Watkins Glen, N.Y., qualified 16th.
