ATLANTA, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Mike Minor teamed with three relievers on a five-hitter Thursday and a home run by Chipper Jones provided the offense in Atlanta's 1-0 win over San Francisco.
Craig Kimbrel recorded his 37th save, the most ever in one season for a National League rookie.
Minor (3-2) survived six innings while giving up four hits and striking out nine. He has 89 strikeouts in 17 major league starts over two seasons.
Eric O'Flaherty, Jonny Venters and Kimbrel each worked an inning to complete the shutout, only the second for Atlanta pitching in the Braves' last 42 games.
Kimbrel's 37 saves leads the majors. The major league record for rookie saves is 40, set last year by Neftali Feliz of Texas.
Tim Lincecum (11-10) took the loss even though he allowed only five hits and struck out seven in seven innings. The homer by Jones off Lincecum came in the fifth inning.
Atlanta increased its lead over San Francisco in the National League wild-card race to six games.
