The Diamondbacks gave up seven runs during the seventh and eighth innings and saw their seven-game winning streak halted.

Philadelphia and Arizona have split the opening two games of a three-game series between division leaders.

The game had been deadlocked at 2-2 since the second inning when Philadelphia broke through in the seventh against starter Joe Saunders (8-10).

Hunter Pence drew a four-pitch leadoff walk and John Mayberry followed with a single. Valdez then doubled to center, driving in both runners to break the tie and ignite a three-run inning. Ben Francisco delivered a sacrifice fly later in the frame.

Philadelphia added four runs on five hits in the eighth, during which the Phillies batted around.

Djokovic breezes into third round

MASON, Ohio, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Novak Djokovic, seeking his 10th tournament title in 11 tries this year, rolled into the third round Wednesday at the Western & Southern Open.

Djokovic defeated Ryan Harrison 6-2, 6-3, joining Rafael Nadal and Mardy Fish among Wednesday's winners.

In what has become one of the most dominating years ever in men's tennis, Djokovic has lost only one match in 2011. That came in the semifinals of the French Open, where he fell to Roger Federer.

Djokovic and Federer have not met since then, but they would face each other in the semifinals this week if they keep winning. Federer reached the third round Tuesday with a decision over Juan Martin del Potro.

Radek Stepanek earned a third-round meeting with Djokovic by downing Andrey Golubev 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

Nadal, seeded second behind Djokovic, advanced with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Julien Benneteau.

Fish, who took Djokovic to a third set before falling in last week's championship match in Montreal, ousted Nikolay Davydenko 6-0, 6-2. Fourth-seeded Andy Murray, knocked out in the opening round last week, earned his third-round spot by defeating David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-1.

Fish, Murray and Nadal are all in the same half of the draw. Fish will next take on Richard Gasquet, Nadal will play Fernando Verdasco and Murray will take on Alex Bogomolov. Fish and Nadal would meet in the quarterfinals if they win their third-round matches.

Lions' Suh unhappy with $20,000 hit fine

DETROIT, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Detroit Lions tackle Ndamukong Suh indicated he's none too happy with the NFL about an apparent $20,000 fine for leveling Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton.

"$20,000REALLY???" Suh said in a Twitter message Wednesday that was followed by 108 exclamation marks and the hashtags #NFL and #BIGFAIL."

The NFL had not yet confirmed the fine.

Suh, a second-year player, was flagged for roughing the passer in the first quarter of the Lions-Bengals pre-season opener Friday when he wrapped up the rookie Dalton around his head and shoulders and slammed him to the ground, sending his helmet flying.

Dalton, who had already released the ball for an incomplete pass, stayed in the game.

Detroit won the game 34-3.

Suh was fined twice as a rookie for illegal hits on quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Jay Cutler.

Ortiz expects quick return from bursitis

BOSTON, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Boston designated hitter David Ortiz said Wednesday he hoped to be out for no more than a week with what has been diagnosed as bursitis in his right foot.

Ortiz was removed from the lineup prior to the start of Boston's doubleheader against Tampa Bay on Tuesday because he could not run without feeling pain.

He said he first began to feel the bursitis during a game Sunday against Seattle.

"The doctor wants me to rest for three to four days," said Ortiz, 35, who wore a boot on his right foot Wednesday to restrict movement. "The doctor said it's pretty normal in people that exercise. They deal with that every day. It's just aggravation from running."

Ortiz has a batting average of .300 this season with 24 home runs.
