SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson has an inflamed throwing elbow and will sidelined for at least a few days, Manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday.

Wilson, a three-time all-star and key to the Giants' hopes of repeating as World Series champions, was idled after indicating something was wrong after Monday's 5-4 loss to Atlanta, during which he allowed three ninth inning runs and blew a save.

The manager said after Wilson still didn't feel right Tuesday, he was sent to visit orthopedist Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., MLB.com reported.

Andrews, the surgeon who performed "Tommy John" ligament replacement on Wilson several years ago, found nothing was seriously wrong with his elbow, Bochy said.

Wilson has racked up 35 saves in 40 opportunities this year, during which he has spent time on the disabled list with a sore back.
