MLB: Tampa Bay 4, Boston 0

BOSTON, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- David Price pitched eight shutout innings Wednesday in helping the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Price (11-10) allowed three hits while walking three, hitting one and striking out six. He only got the side out in order twice in eight innings before being lifted for Kyle Farnsworth, who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Boston's best chance off Price came in the sixth inning when Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a triple. After a strike out, Adrian Gonzalez grounded to third and Ellsbury was caught off base and was out after a short rundown.

Tampa Bay spotted Price a lead in the first inning when Johnny Damon, who had singled and then taken second on an error before advancing to third on a wild pitch, scored on a groundout by Ben Zobrist.

B.J. Upton, in the fourth, and Evan Longoria, an inning later, each hit solo home runs off Boston starter John Lackey (11-9). It was home run No. 17 for Upton while Longoria has 19 homers this season.

Lackey allowed six hits and three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings and gave up an RBI double to Zobrist in the seventh. He walked three and struck out seven.
