Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Cameron Maybin had a solo home run and Orlando Hudson had two hits and two RBI Tuesday to lead the San Diego Padres to a 6-1 win over the New York Mets.
The Padres, who had lost four of their previous games, had 15 hits. Nick Hundley went 3-for-4 with an RBI and was one of six San Diego players with multi-hit performances.
Corey Luebke (5-6) limited New York to one run on three hits and five strikeouts over six innings for the victory.
Ruben Tejada had two hits and drove in the only run for the Mets.
Jonathan Niese (11-10) lasted six innings and allowed 10 hits and three runs, two in the first inning.
