MLB: New York Yankees 9, Kansas City 7

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Robinson Cano drove in four runs Tuesday, including a three-run shot in the fourth inning, sparking the New York Yankees to a 9-7 win over Kansas City.

Cano's blast capped a five-run outburst that put the Yankees up 8-5. Russell Martin added a two-run single as New York clinched its three-game series against the Royals.

The Yankees won for the fifth time in six games and have scored at least six runs in each of those victories -- 40 in total.

Ivan Nova (12-4) notched a victory in his fifth consecutive start, even though he surrendered seven runs on nine hits on a 5 1/3-inning effort, walking one and fanning two.

Kansas City rookie Danny Duffy (3-7) was pounded for eight runs on eight hits over three-plus innings.

Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Melky Cabrera smacked a solo homer for the Royals.
