SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- David Wright broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a three-run homer Wednesday and the New York Mets went on to down San Diego 7-3.
The Mets captured two out of three against the Padres, winning a series in San Diego for the first time in nine years.
Wright's home run, his 10th, came with Angel Pagan and Willie Harris on board and one away in the third.
Pagan had three RBI, driving in a run in the seventh with a groundout and producing two more with a single during a three-run eighth.
Dillon Gee (11-4) gave up only one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings for the victory. After winning his first seven decisions of the year through June 11, Gee has gone 4-4 in nine starts.
The loss was charged to Mat Latos (6-12), who gave up Wright's three-run homer but nothing else in six innings.
