PITTSBURGH, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Garrett Jones smashed a long solo homer in the bottom of the 11th inning Tuesday, powering the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-4 decision over St. Louis.
Neil Walker sent the game into extra frames when he launched a game-tying, bases-empty shot leading off the bottom of the ninth.
After a scoreless 10th in which Arthur Rhodes (0-1) recorded the final two outs, Jones greeted Rhodes in the 11th with a blast that cleared the right-field stands at PNC Park and bounced into the Allegheny River.
Andrew McCutchen added a three-run homer as the Pirates clinched their three-game series with the Cards.
Chris Resop (4-4) hurled two scoreless relief frames for the win.
Chris Carpenter yielded three runs on five hits in a seven-inning effort for St. Louis, which fell seven games behind first-place Milwaukee in the National League Central.
