PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Lyle Overbay's two-run double in the ninth inning Tuesday rallied the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Philadelphia.
With the Diamondbacks trailing 2-1 entering their final at-bat against Phillies ace Roy Halladay (15-5), Justin Upton and Miguel Montero singled before Overbay belted a double that bounced off the right-center field wall.
Hunter Pence fired an accurate throw from the outfield but pinch-runner Collin Cowgill dove past catcher Carlos Ruiz's left leg and touched the plate before Ruiz could apply the tag.
Bryan Shaw (1-0) tossed a scoreless eighth to get his first career win. J.J. Putz earned his 30th save despite issuing a lead-off walk in the ninth.
Coupled with San Francisco's Tuesday loss to Atlanta, the Diamondbacks stretched their lead in the National League West to 3 1/2 games.
Halladay was spectacular in a complete-game loss, striking out 14. But he let in three runs on eight hits and was saddled with his first home defeat since April 19.
The left-hander blew a ninth-inning lead for the first time since 2007.
