MILWAUKEE, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Sidney Moncrief, known for his defensive acumen as a player, has rejoined the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant coach.
Moncrief, 53, played 10 seasons for the Bucks, averaging 16.7 points and 5.0 rebounds. The NBA club retired his No. 4 jersey in 1990.
Moncrief, picked by head Coach Scott Skiles to fill a vacancy created by the departure of Kelvin Sampson to the Houston Rockets, previously was an assistant for Golden State and Dallas.
The University of Arkansas product also was a head coach of the NBA Development League's Fort Worth Flyers and head coach at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Moncrief was named the NBA's top defensive player for the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons -- the first two years the award was presented.
