HOUSTON, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Adam Moffat and Brian Ching scored first-half goals Sunday and the Houston Dynamo held on for a 2-1 decision over Portland.

Former Timber player Moffat made it 1-0 in the 17th minute with a spectacular goal in which he struck a laser from 40 yards out straight into the upper right corner of the goal.

Ching, who was doubtful before the game with a groin injury, doubled Houston's advantage 10 minutes later when he collected a through-ball midway into the box and curled in a shot.

The Dynamo (7-7-10) stretched its unbeaten streak to three games, racking up six points during the span while leapfrogging Red Bull New York into the Eastern Conference's third seed.

Jack Jewsbury notched a second-half goal for Portland (7-12-5).
