MLB: Seattle 5, Boston 3

SEATTLE, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Charlie Furbush pitched seven innings of one-run ball and the Seattle Mariners scored three times in the third inning of their 5-3 Sunday win over Boston.

Furbush (3-4) scattered four hits and two walks for the Mariners, who captured the rubber match of a three-game series against the American League East-leading Red Sox. He fanned six.

Brandon League came in to pick up his 29th save after the Bosox scored twice in the eighth to make it close.

Jack Wilson and Mike Carp each had RBI singles in the decisive third frame and Casper Wells later socked a bases-empty homer for Seattle.

Boston's Tim Wakefield (6-5) pitched a complete-game loss. The knuckleballer surrendered five runs (four earned) on nine hits while walking two and whiffing four.

Kevin Youkilis smacked a two-run homer for the Bosox.
